To give you some inspiration, I just came back from my daughter's two-year check-up where she had to get two shots. She took each one without making a sound, which I think is kind of amazing. So, to test out my comments and think about moments of bravery in the face of danger, what's the bravest, most impressive thing you've ever faced?

I've rewritten a response several times and have decided it is unanswerable. I know I've been brave but only because I had to move ahead despite my fear, not because I did anything truly daring. Bravery, like beauty, is difficult to define.

Testing this for you - I think the bravest thing I've done was...dang. Traveling in Europe by myself?
ReplyDeleteThe bravest thing I've ever done was actually a few things. I did them all around the same time, so that's why I consider them "one thing." I dropped out of law school, started my pilates training AND got into therapy around the same time (and I had to FIGHT to get into therapy)--so I took the first steps to completely change my life. I'm very proud of myself for doing so!
ReplyDeleteThat is incredibly brave, and I'm proud of you, too!
ReplyDeleteI've never been to Europe, let alone by myself! Which places did you get to see? That sounds very exciting.
ReplyDeleteI love this! I think that the things I've been bravest facing wouldn't seem all that brave from the outside looking in because my fears aren't always placed in obvious ways.
ReplyDeleteI'll try this out... Probably the bravest thing I ever did was to get a degree in a solid and job-rich lab science, but then choose to go into music as my profession.
ReplyDeleteThe bravest thing I ever did was fall in love with a penpal and commit to him without meeting him face to face. I embarked on 10 months of a distance relationship with someone I never "met", then I flew to Japan to spend a month with him (again, not having seen each other in the flesh - the fear I had at his seeing me physically and rejecting my appearance was immense). It turned out beautifully, and I never actually saw it as a risk because I knew him, but I'd think it was pretty brave/stupid if anyone else had said they were going to do what I did.
ReplyDeleteWell I traveled with others most of the time but by myself the last few days :) We went to Florence and Rome, Munich, Athens, Copenhagen and Odense. Loved it!
ReplyDeleteHmm. I think the bravest thing I've done is work with a gestational carrier to have my son.
